VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS CONTENT STANDARDS

Visual and Performing Arts Strands

1.      Artistic Perception:  Processing, analyzing, and responding to sensory information through the language and skills unique to the arts.

2.      Creative Expression:  Creating, performing, and participating in the arts. 

3.      Historical & Cultural Context:  Understanding historical contributions and cultural dimensions of the arts. 

4.      Aesthetic Valuing:  Responding to, analyzing, and making judgments about works in the arts.

5.      Connections, Relations, Applications:  Connecting and applying what is learned in each art form to learning in other art forms, subject areas, and careers.

WE ARE NOW ALIGNING OUR CURRICULUM TO THE NEW CALIFORNIA STATE STANDARDS THAT ARE NOW IN PLACE. HOWEVER, IN RECOGNITION OF THE OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT AND TIME OR OUR DISTRICTS VAPA TEAM WE WISH TO SHARE OUR DISTRICTS WORK IN ESTABLISHING STANDARDS BEFORE THE STATE STANDARDS WERE IN PLACE.

Guideline for Use of Visual and Performing Arts Standards for Grades 7-12
 The Visual and Performing Arts Standards for Black Oak Mine Unified School district have been developed for the benchmark grade levels 2^nd, 5^th, 8^th and 12^th.  They comprise the roadmap for what we want all children to know in the visual and performing arts. Though these standards ultimately determine what every student in grades Kindergarten through 6^th grade will learn, students in grades 7 through 12 will experience these standards in a more specialized way. For instance, a student may choose to specialize in theater arts in grades 7-12 while having limited experience with any of the other arts. The District will continue to expand offerings for all students in the Visual and Performing Arts in all grades, including grades 7-12.
